L. C. FOX-SMITH - 06/06/25: Today I reflected on Matthew 11:28-30:
‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
After yesterday’s bible study, the idea that when we ‘take up our cross’ and follow Jesus there will still be a yoke and burden is sticking with me. I looked at the meaning of ‘burden’ and ‘easy’ on the E-sword app:
Burden = task or service
Easy = better, good, gracious, kind
Surrendering to Jesus’ way has been a massive step in my life. Even though I know I am saved through belief in Him, I feel a new weight. That weight is compelling me to act on the belief and it feels stronger as time goes on. Putting my trust in Him, taking up my cross daily and trying to apply His word to my life is not easy, but it does feel better and good, and His grace shines through.
With Jesus, the burden is His and He invites me to share it with Him. It’s like Ive put down my own worries and picked up something new. I’m no longer carrying the crushing weight of the world or my own failures through self-reliance. The weight I carry now is full of peace and purpose, and I’m not carrying it alone.
What would it look like for you to lay down your own burden and take up the one Jesus offers?
