L. C. FOX-SMITH - 10/06/25: Today I read Matthew 25:31-46 and stuck on a verse that feels like a strong call to action:
‘Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’
It’s a powerful concept that when we serve others we serve Jesus. We can be faithful in our thoughts but here we are being instructed to take our faith further than that and direct it outwards into the world.
I wonder how many opportunities I have been given to serve, to help others and to put my faith into action, my words into deeds? How many of these opportunities have I passed on? I need to open my eyes more I think.
The passage flips it so well and gives us such a strong contrast with some serious consequences to think about. We can do good by others or bad by them. We can actively engage with others or live life passively focussed only on ourselves.
Jesus is telling us that we’ve got two paths to choose and the final verse 46 makes it very clear where each of them leads, ‘And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.’
Are there people in your life whom you’ve overlooked? People Jesus might be calling you to see differently?
